I’m a journalist based in Honolulu. I’m currently a senior staff writer at Grist, a nonprofit news site dedicated to climate solutions and a just future.

Before Grist, I spent a decade at Honolulu Civil Beat, covering local news and regional Pacific stories. I’ve also written for The Associated Press, The Wall Street Journal, Columbia Journalism Review and The Guardian.

I write watchdog stories, investigative and explanatory deep-dives, features and breaking news. At Grist, I cover the intersection of environmental issues and Indigenous peoples, particularly in the Pacific. Have a story idea? Email me at ahofschneider@grist.org.
